The beautiful island of Puerto Rico is rich in history, beautiful beaches, a rich culture, and delicious food. Although I have never visited this beautiful island, today I was treated with a culinary trip to their delicious cuisine courtesy of Encanto – a new restaurant opening in Virginia Beach on February 20th.
Located at 3501 Holland Road (suite 103) in Virginia Beach, Encanto brings the flavor of the island to Hampton Roads with various culinary delicacies from the island created by the talented culinary skills of their chefs.
At first arrival, you will be happily greeted by the courteous staff, and immediately transported to the island. Their bright interior tropical colors of their walls, and their interior decor provides a taste of the island’s rich culture. If that doesn’t do it for you, then immediately you will hear the magical sounds of Salsa playing in the background. This alone creates a jovial atmosphere that eases any troubles you may have had prior to entering the establishment. As you feet magically start to move to the sounds of Salsa, your stomach will certainly follow its acrobatics as it smells and sees the culinary delicacies available. I started with an “Empanadilla”, their menu translates it to a Puerto Rican turnover, it is a flavor baked pocket nicely filled with skillfully spiced beef, and served with a pink sauce. A nice way to start a meal and prep my taste buds for the main entree.
The main dish I tried was a plate with tostones (fried plantains), arroz con gandules, pernil topped with chicharrón, and aguacate. Everything was perfectly cooked. The healthy portion of rice is packed with flavor, and the pernil (pork shoulder chunks) was moist, flavorful, and delicious. Topped with chicharrón (similar to bacon) it was a perfect balance of flavor. An added bonus was the tostones and avocado slice that complimented the dish beautifully.
Encanto sure enchanted me, and I am already planning my next trip to try more of their delicious menu items. I would encourage you to visit them and be equally impressed with their friendliness, quality of service, and amazing flavorful food created by some amazing chefs.
